I'm With You (2009–present)

The band, along with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar, made their live comeback on January 29, 2010, paying tribute to Neil Young with a cover of "A Man Needs a Maid" at MusiCares. On February 8, 2010, Klinghoffer was officially confirmed by Chad Smith as Frusciante's full-time replacement.[3]
On May 6, 2010, Smith said that the band had written around twenty songs and that he expected recording to commence in July 2010. He stated that the new album would have an influence of afro-pop. Rick Rubin produced the record. Smith commented on their new sound, explaining that Klinghoffer would also sing and play keyboards and that Flea would incorporate pianistic melodies he developed studying at USC.
In September 2010, the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced that their music would not be featured on the popular television show, Glee with Anthony stating that it did not make sense for music near and dear to their hearts to appear on shows like Glee and American Idol and that it seemed emotionally displaced. The Chili Peppers are one of many rock bands who have declined an offer to have their music featured on Glee.[110]
On October 16, 2010, the band's record label, Warner Brothers, announced that they were looking into legal action against British singer-songwriter Diana Vickers, claiming that her song "My Wicked Heart" sampled the bridge melody from the Peppers "Under the Bridge" without permission. Vickers claimed that she was listening to "Under the Bridge" when she wrote her single but thought nothing of it at the time.[111] Vickers defended her decision to keep the resemblance stating it is "only a tiny snippet with different chords".[112]
The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History was released on October 19, 2010. The coffee table book was the first book by the Chili Peppers and was co-written by longtime friend Brendan Mullen. The book has over 300 photos and a full history of the band in their own words and those of past band members, friends and others directly involved.

Kiedis, Flea, and Klinghoffer, along with former members John Frusciante and Jack Irons, appear in the 2011 documentary Bob and the Monster, which details the life and career of musician and drug counselor Bob Forrest. Klinghoffer composed the music for the film.
The band has already announced plans to play a few festival dates in August through October. These shows will be their first since August 2007 and their first with Klinghoffer as their new guitarist, with the exception of their one-off MusiCares appearance in January of 2010.[113][114]
In March 2011, a live version of the Californication track "Around the World" was included on the charity compilation album Songs for Japan. The album features thirty different artists and one hundred percent of the money from sales go to the Japanese Red Cross to benefit those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.[115]
To celebrate Record Store Day, on April 16, 2011, a limited edition of only 6,500 copies red colored vinyl 7" was released featuring the Chili Peppers cover of the Ramones song "Havana Affair" on one side of the record and the original version by the Ramones on the other side.[116][117]
In May 2011, UK radio station Kerrang! held a competition to find the 50 most iconic rock band logos, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "asterisk" was among the winners.[118]
On May 11, 2011, Anthony donated an MTV European Music Award that the band had previously won to help raise funds for ongoing relief in devastated areas of Japan, which was hit with an earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.[119]
On June 5, 2011, the band's official site announced that the new album would be released on August 30, 2011 (though a few days earlier in other countries)[120][121] and titled I'm with You.
On June 8, 2011, in an article with Rolling Stone magazine's David Fricke, Anthony, Flea and Josh were interviewed and talked about the new album. I'm with You will have 14 songs and the first single has been confirmed to be The Adventures of Raindance Maggie. Flea said that the Rolling Stones albums Exile On Main Street and Tattoo You were major influences on the new music and he listened to both albums often during the writing of the album. Kiedis also said that Klinghoffer played a big role, and co-wrote the album with himself, Flea, and Smith.[122]
On June 17, 2011, the Chili Peppers announced their first European tour in 4 years. Beginning with a few warm-up dates in Asia and Brazil in August and September, the I'm With You tour will officially kick off in Cologne, Germany on October 7 and will continue through 2013, with more dates to be announced soon.
Rick Rubin talked about the new album on June 20, 2011 and said the band had enough material to make another double album but felt they had already been down that road though it was a tough decision not to release all the material they worked on. The original plan was for twelve songs but even that proved to be tough so they ended up putting fourteen songs on the album. On Josh's sound and style Rubin said that stylistically he is very close to John Frusciante though the new music sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers that you’ve never heard before.
